$750 million redevelopment plans submitted for Brisbane transport precinct

Plans have now been lodged for a $750 million redevelopment of the Albion Train Station precinct which will see 10 stages set to be rolled out during the 15-year project.

Submitted by Brisbane based developer, Geon Property, the plans for stage one will feature a new food and beverage destination, health and well-being offerings, and two new multi-level residential buildings over a commercial and retail podium. Complete plans for the project will be extended to the community shortly.

The two residential buildings will stand at 30-storeys and 23-storeys respectively and will provide a total 333 apartments. Architecture firm Hames Sharley is responsible for the designs.

The site covers ground directly south and above the existing Albion Train Station, making the project heavily transport focused. An upgrade to the Albion Train Station and associated transport facilities, valued at $28.7 million, has also been tied into the proposal.

Geon Property senior development manager Tim Rossberg said, “The Geon Property development team has been shaping the vision for the Albion Exchange precinct for two years, working in collaboration with Queensland Rail and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.”

Working with the Brisbane City Council the proposal also includes 4,900sqm of new green open space and a public plaza connecting the east and west of Albion Road.

“The size and quality of public amenity in our Stage One proposal will transform the inner-city transit node into a green public sanctuary, with a strong emphasis on community interaction and exchange, legibility and accessibility. Over 65% of the Stage One site area will be dedicated to public space for the community,” Mr Rossberg said,

“Albion is one of the fastest growing areas in Brisbane and by 2036 the suburb’s population is estimated to grow by more than 3,857 residents.”

Construction will start in early 2020, subject to development approval.
